Buddy Walk

Mike, Ellee, and I are going to attend a Buddy Walk in support of Katie on September 7th.  There are walks throughout the country, through the year, all organized by local Down Syndrome groups, and supported by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS).  I'm not sure what it will be like but we are looking forward to meeting some great people, learning about Katie, and general fun times.

Please consider supporting the charity, Katie, and us on our new adventure!

28 Weeks!

It is time for another fun update!  We had an ultrasound appointment in Syracuse to check Katie’s organs and growth.  It was great news all around.

She is about 31% in size, based upon all the various measurements, and is roughly 2lbs!  This is great news.  They are watching her growth closely because her umbilical cord only has two vessels, but she is right on track and there is no concern for now.

They also checked her stomach, bladder, kidneys, and intestines and are all still looking great.  The doctor said they should be able to see any blockages by now, so there is no concern for now.

They checked the ventricles in the brain and they are still mildly enlarged but they have not progressed which means it is unlikely to get worse, need treatment, or cause any problems.  It is now just considered a minor variance due to her Down syndrome.

The next steps are:

  1. Another heart exam in one month to check on her pulmonary artery which might be small and could cause the heart surgery to be earlier than 6 months.
  2. Another full body ultrasound is in 6 weeks to make sure her growth is still on track and the organs are still looking good.

We are now at 28 weeks and she is kicking hard and having a blast, usually at about 5am!  (We have already had a talk about appropriate waking hours)

Of course she is adorable.  Below is a precious photo we received from 3D ultrasound.  Her hands are on top of her head and her nose and lips are showing.

Here is our 28 week photo.  She is definitely getting bigger!

Mike and I are doing well.  We are still concerned about her heart, and heart surgery, but every day we get more and more excited about meeting our little baby girl and starting our next adventure as a family of four.
